Abalone shells make excellent vessels for containing smoldering herbs and incense. It is wise to insulate the bottom of the shell with a minimum of 2 inches of sand or ash to protect the shell against high temperatures. These shells are often used for traditional cleansing ceremonies. They are ideal for burning sweetgrass and sage or indirect burning incense such as resin.

Place a few dried sage pieces or sweet grass in the bottom of the shell with the sand, ignite then blow out flame and the sage or grass will release a cloud of white, purifying smoke.

Silver Sage (Salvia argentea) is from the latin word salvare, which means to heal. It has a distinctive silvery white colour. This natural, freshly picked sage has long been used in smudging ceremonies, helping to connect to the healing powers of mother earth. It is used to cleanse negative thoughts and the dark from people, objects and dwelling places. Silver sage emits a moist, cool smoke which centres, grounds and brings clarity, while encouraging action. Light and burn in a smudge bowl or use in cleansing ceremonies.

Silver Sage is said to command the attention of our spirit guides. Sage smoke carries our prayers and intentions as it purifies our inner and outer environments.

This wild sage is harvested by individual pickers (there is no big cultivation nor farms involved). This ensures an ethical harvest that leaves enough plants to self-populate the following year.

The word “yoga” is derived from Sanskrit and means to unite, to bring together, to connect. The Strong Nations Yoga Cards connect the ancient practice of yoga with Indigenous teachings. These cards honour our connection to each other, to nature, to spirit, and to this amazing planet we all share.

Handy, user-friendly, and fun, the Strong Nations Yoga Cards illustrate physical and reflective practices with adorable artwork by Bill Helin and Laura Timmermans.

The Cards
The Strong Nations Yoga Cards deck includes 25 double-sided interconnecting cards. Each card is 3.5” x by 4.5” and presents a physical practice on one side and a reflective practice on the other. The endless combinations and versatility of these cards make them ideal for all levels and ages.

The Yoga Practice
24 yoga poses are explained with simplified text and colourful illustrations by Laura Timmermans.

The cards are colour-coded into four aspects of a yoga practice:

• 4 green “Opening Breath” cards
• 8 yellow “Warm-up Pose” cards
• 8 purple “Active Pose” cards
• 4 blue “Closing Pose” cards

Choose an individual card or one of each colour for a shorter yoga practice, or create a sequence of several cards for a longer practice.

The Reflective Practice
