Communication
The communication competency encompasses the set of abilities that students use to impart and exchange information, experiences and ideas, to explore the world around them, and to understand and effectively engage in the use of digital media.
The intention of the titles chosen, except for Hideaway Cove, is to explore an individual, family or communities cultural activities and to provide a platform to think, then communicate from. The student would then retell/explain what the activity is that they participate in.
The last page of Hideaway Cove is a call to action when visiting west coast beaches. It is an exemplar of how a chart/poster could be made by students that is inclusive for any activity, be it the skate park, shopping mall, or hiking trail etc.

Each book in the By Day and By Night Nature Series focuses on a scene typical of a distinct west coast habitat, showing how living and non-living things are connected in a healthy ecosystem. Synopsis:
