Troy Townsin

Troy Townsin was born in Melbourne, Australia and worked as an actor and playwright before embarking on a round-the-world backpacking extravaganza taking him to several continents.He settled for a while in Soho, England where he managed the Acoustic Cafe bar and restaurant before becoming a beverage manager at the exclusive Cafe de Paris in London's glamorous West End. It was here that Troy had the opportunity to develop his passion for food and wine as winemakers and experts from around the world flew in to provide the finest food and beverage training.

Troy returned to Melbourne and stayed in the hospitality industry while earning a Bachelor of Arts in International Studies. The global nature of the course allowed him to take semesters in Malaysia, Turkey and the UK. While studying in Malaysia, he met his future wife, Cheryl-Lynn, who was also taking part in a university exchange program.

After graduating, he worked for the United Nations Information Centre in London before taking a job as an event reporter. In 2003, he won the prestigious Travel Writer of the Year award with TNT Magazine UK. In 2004 Troy moved to the Pacific Northwest where his passion for the world's finest food and wine could be indulged. In 2005 he co-authored the hit cookbook/guidebook, Cooking with BC Wine. It won a Gourmand World Cookbook Award. Troy currently runs a weekly wine column on Canada's CBC radio.
